Comments on: What Makes Great Racing? http://www.bk30beta.bradracing.com/2014/08/14/what-makes-great-racing/ Fri, 28 Apr 2017 07:21:21 +0000 hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=5.2.20 By: sta1nd88 http://www.bk30beta.bradracing.com/2014/08/14/what-makes-great-racing/#comment-3596 Wed, 20 Aug 2014 04:01:33 +0000 #comment-3596 Awesome read, Brad. I think what made for great racing, was not only the racing itself, but how it was called by the booth. Between Bob Jenkins, BP and Ned Jarrett, I like so many others, learned so much about what made those cars tick. They treated each race with the utmost professionalism. Eli Gold, Allen Bestwick, and Mike Joy are 3 others who come to mind. Nothing screams excitement like an annoucer who has a geniune passion for what he/she is doing, when cars are beating banging and rubbing fenders at the finish and they can’t help but yell and get you excited. Seems like something we lack, which also might help to explain the lack of ratings. If the announcers aren’t excited about the on track produt, how do you expect the 10-30 million fans watching at home to be excited? Also,
Id like to also return to showing racing for 30th back in the pack. Seems like nowadays it only matters if there’s a top name racing back there because they had to start at the rear. Those guys are racing just as hard for 30th as the guys up front.

You just never knew for sure what was gonna happen. It is that uncertainty with a race outcome that makes it so fun for me to watch. Your win at Talladega was great for so many reasons. we saw an unbelievable finish, but we also saw a driver who worked so hard to get to where he is, have his hard work finally pay off. and when those 2 things combine, it creates an amazing story, and it becomes a race that I cant help but watch over and over again. Your first win, Regan Smith at Darlington, AJ Last week. All of them combined a great finish with a feel good story. And it’s those races that I will always enjoy watching the most.

Great article Brad, it’s always a great read.

Other than that I really agree with everything else you listed. Another great piece!

I agree with you Brad. That race at the Glen in 2012 was a great race! I also think that any great race is when a fan favorite driver races in it and wins! For me that’s you! I also think a great race is when I driver had a difficult week off track. The race that made me the fan of yours I am today Pocono August race 2011! You were able to win with a broke foot and you even did it again a few weeks later in Bristol! (Even though I still think you won that because I had sprained my ankle that Wednesday) Also for a race to be great you have to thank crew chief and you have what I think is one of the coolest(even though he is not on twitter) crew chiefs Paul Wolfe! Brad I wish you and the #2Crew good luck in your home state race! Sadly this Michigan girl will be watching from home! But I will be cheering you on like I did this past June at MIS! Good luck Brad and best of luck as well to both of your truck teams.

Great racing doesn’t always include a great finish, sometimes great driving makes for great racing. Tagliani was impressive earlier this year, Larson at the MudSummer classic was plain crazy, and I don’t think we’ll ever see a drive from the back like Earnhardt’s last win.
