I have sat in your pit box during the rain delay in Homestead, while you were having a in depth conversation with Brian. I wanted to say hello and tell you how exciting it is to watch you race, but it just didn’t seem the right time to do so. Then another time at Chicagoland I handed you a Gatorade out of the Penske Cooler, wanted to then, but you were talking to Tim. So this weekend I will be watching as always in Chicagoland and yes we are race campers as well. But I have a special flag hanging below yours this weekend, remembering Floridians at this time of rebuilding. The Best Championship win I have ever experienced was yours so go race this weekend because you are always in it 2 win it

Just got home from Pocono and lucky enough to be inside the garages. Felt compelled to reach out because you were literally the only one who actually engaged with the folks who were there – no vacant staring passed us; no plotting the shortest way back to the hauler and how to avoid everyone on your way there; no complete blow off when we said “good luck tomorrow” as if you didn’t hear us, etc. like so many of the others did. We did get a few pictures and autographs, where nobody said a word and the exchange felt…….awkward and empty. .And, I get that to a point. But, I have to tell you, we were shocked by how many were like this. And, let me say, we were well mannered and never abruptly got in anyone’s face, etc. Unfortunately there are those who do. Now, in all fairness, it must be a huge inconvenience to have so many folks pulling at you at once, and some can be really pushy (and I”m sure at the worst times) too. But, a lot of us are not. We were not. We asked politely.. We waited patiently. We made sure not to approach anyone at the wrong times, or when clearly preoccupied, etc.. Still, I can’t help feeling a bit let down by it all. However, your diplomacy, patience and great character really stood out. Everyone in our group was so incredibly impressed with you – I only wish I was quick enough to snap a picture while you were kind enough to sign a few autographs and chat with us! Even though you won’t remember all of us, the memories you left us with are priceless and will last us a lifetime! Thanks for just being a great person, who just happens to be one helluva racer. We love going to the races, are blessed enough to have the means to go to many each year and you have a pack of new fans in us! Hope we get to see you cruising the campgrounds and I hope my sincerity shines through the words here. Thanks again, Brad!! xo

Now I know why you were so confident, You’re a darn good racer. As for brash, you speak your mind and it’s usually a pretty intelligent well thought-out comment. Now I didn’t know you also had a real interest in your fans and race fans in general. I love how you go out of your way to include them in a personal moment. You’re a throw back, I guess, to the early days of racing that I remember. A cold beer and lots of bench racin’. Best of luck in your career.

Dale Earnhardt was famous for doing that. As NASCAR got bigger it lost some of how we use to connect with fans at the track and campgrounds. Yes it’s a business, but more drivers need to stop being shy and apprehensive about connecting with race fans. It’s a way to meet those that are able to travel in the campground community and welcome them for the race weekend. Also it puts a face to the fans that support you and your team. Helps to be more confident to know there are fans there supporting you as you go into battle.
